Basic recommendations for selecting and installing power supplies with voltage stabilization 12, 24, 48 Volts
- The first and very important recommendation is that the switch should be “standing” in front of the power supply, interrupting the input current to the power supply. This simple action will protect against the extremely rare, but very dangerous spontaneous combustion of the power supply. This happens so rarely that one could not focus on it if the solution were not so simple.
- Selecting a place where the power supply will be located. It is advisable to provide air ventilation near it. After all, even with an efficiency of 90-95% of the consumed power, part of the electricity is spent on heating the elements of the power supply. And this heat must be removed from the case. The more powerful the power supply, the more heat it emits.
- It is recommended not to “load” the power supply to full power. In the “maximum” mode, the efficiency decreases and the heating of the unit increases.
- We try to minimize the distance between the power supply and the LED strip (or other “consumer”). It is necessary to take into account the power losses on the cable. The general rule is that the thicker the cable and the shorter its length, the lower the losses.
- Power supplies come in sealed and non-sealed. Non-sealed ones are usually cheaper, and sealed ones have two advantages: dust and moisture protection and minimizing squeaking during smoking.
- Some non-sealed units have their own “trick” - correction of the output power within 3-8%. This can be useful in the case described in point 3, when you can at least partially compensate for cable losses. In another case, when the light is too bright, you can dim it.
- When a sealed power supply will be used in a damp place, moisture protection of the contacts should also be provided. There are cases when moisture gets inside the unit through the cable, and such cases will not be covered by the warranty.
